This study evaluated the use of four different RES based on their performance, meeting their specific needs and their cost for the conversion of the Holy Monastery of Gouvernetos to Chania in a model Green Building.
For the transformation, solar energy is transformed into electric and thermal from photovoltaic panels (15 kW) and solar thermal panels respectively, with conversion to electricity from a small wind turbine (3.5 kW) and biomass with conversion to thermal using a burner . This combined use overcomes the complex’s needs in electricity, heating and hot water supply. The design was made in such a way that there was no visual nuisance in the preserved complex.
